“THE PEACE WE ENJOY”

Celebrating the Decade for the Culture of Peace

 INTRODUCTION/ CONTEXT

At this strategic moment when Cameroon joins the rest of the world to commemorate the decade for the promotion of the Culture of Peace; at this moment when the UN and its specialised organs as well as the international community commend good governance, the respect of Human Rights and sustainable development as invaluable ingredients of peace in the family, the community and the world at large, given the veritable role youths and youth movements have played in the last 10 years in the promotion of a Peace Culture in Cameroon, there is the need to jealously preserve and sustain the peace we have thus far enjoyed and cultivated in the minds of fellow men. That is why this project is relevant.

The project is youth-focused given that as leaders of tomorrow:

-          There is need for their continuous education on the Culture of Peace, Human Rights, civil responsibility, sustainable development and other peace related values.

-          There is need to set new perspectives.

CONCLUSION

By the end of the celebration, youths of over 30 public, private, denominational institutions in the formal and non-formal educational sectors as well as officials of ministerial departments would have been impacted directly and many more indirectly. A wide variety of youths and personalities of different educational levels in both towns would have been involved in the project. Given the durability of the stickers, posters and leaflets, it is hoped that the crusade, pomp and pageantry characteristic of the celebration of the Decade for the Culture of Peace shall also continue for as long as the products stay in circulation.

In deed, our project would have aroused in our target population the need to preserve the peace we enjoy in order to foster growth and prosperity in our country.
